College dropout who would steal motorcycles to take girlfriend on long drive arrested in India

BENGALURU: Two college dropouts who stole motorcycles to perform stunts and later abandoned them and another who’d lift only high-end bikes to take his girlfriend on long rides were among 60 vehicle-lifters arrested in the city by West division police, reported Times of India. In all, 153 two-wheelers and six cars were recovered from the accused.Police commissioner T Suneel Kumar said the stolen vehicles are worth INR80 lakh and lifted from areas such as Jayanagar, JP Nagar, Wilson Garden, Sampangiramnagar and Banashankari, south Bengaluru.Ranjit Ilangovan alias Vandel and his partner Marimuttu Muniswamy alias Bike Raja, aged around 21 and residents of Ragigudda slum, Jayanagar, dropped out of college after failing in degree first year in 2015. Together, they stole 25 vehicles from various parts of the city.“Recently, the public alerted police control room about two youths on motorbikes performing stunts near Jayanagar IV Block. A police team went to the spot; on seeing the cops, the duo fled. We identified them with help of CCTV footage. They confessed to the crime and said they were in the habit of lifting bikes and later abandoning them,” police said.Similarly, KG Nagar recovered 16 high-end police recovered 16 high-end bikes from Wasim Akram alias Wasim, 24, a resident of Sarabandepalya. Wasim would steal bikes to make his girlfriend happy. “Wasim has been stealing bikes for the last one year. He told us he’d take his girlfriend on long rides on the stolen two-wheelers,” police said. “His girlfriend never knew she was riding pillion on stolen bikes.”
